Black Bean Soup & Motherhood Theology

I don’t always treat myself to a meal alone at Panera at 4:45pm but I’m so hangry I am one stomach growl away from burning North Carolina to the ground.  I was sick over the weekend–– a quick fever bug of sorts with a nasty migraine that robbed me only of sleep (hah, only) and…

June Goals 2019

We are wrapping up part one of 2019 and it BLOWS MY MIND. Time really picked up when we became parents in 2014, but the introduction of the second kid in 2017 sent things into some kind of crazy time warp speed space continuum. Life is going by so fast. Except of course, that last…

Black Mamas Matter

Via the CDC the recorded statistics for 2011-2014 show that 12.4 white women deaths/100,000 live births, 40.0 black women deaths /100,000 live births. Is this a complete picture of maternal healthcare in our country? Absolutely not. But these numbers are STAGGERING and gaps in data need to be addressed and potential implicit biases in our healthcare systems need to be eradicated.

These two are expecting a sweet little rainbow baby girl next month and I had the JOY of hanging out with them at the NCSU arboretum a few weeks ago. They both are absolutely radiant with impending parenthood, and we had way too much fun galavanting around the arboretum in the morning sun. Also, they…

Emmeline Joy’s Nursery

My baby girl will be two in less than two months (how?!) and I realized I have yet to share her nursery here on the blog. We are in early preparations of getting ready to move her to a big girl bed so I needed to document the baby room and the heart behind it…

Kinda Instant, Very Delicious Gluten Free Mac and Cheese

Once upon a time I did not consume dairy and it was good times but I must say that this season of dairy consumption is also good times. This mac and cheese is easy peasy and packs a ton of protein (14G per 2 oz serving! HELLO LUNCH) thanks to the Banza Chickpea Noodles, good…

Neither and Every Choice is the Right Choice.

The other day I had an incredible Instagram DM exchange with a mom friend about the level of anxiety and guilt that we live with now as moms. It was truly life giving– you know, as much as a DM exchange can be, and I’m so glad we talked about it. We don’t talk about…

February Goals (and a baby farm animal)

Recently, while I was “tidying up” I found an old memory card with all of my photos from my study abroad trip to Costa Rica in 2009! These photos of me with a baby sheep are so random but that was the summer after I died my hair red and I think I need red hair again… and a baby sheep. Or is this a goat? Am I for real? There’s nothing special about January 1st! Or February 1st for that matter. We came out of January with a little bit of a limp, the stomach bug made its rounds (but skipped my husband and got my daughter twice?) and we made it out alive with all our limbs intact and that felt like…

To All The Moms I Judged Before

My first baby was high sleep needs. I say this now, because I know this now. Then, I thought my baby’s sleeping habits were because I was a good mom. Hehehe. I know some moms with kids with low sleep needs. I’d see the posts, but never comment. I’d talk to the mom friends, but never…

Foto February 2019: SOOC Challenge

It’s February! In college I used to do this self-imposed Foto February challenge. It was a different time and getting photos from a camera to a computer required cords and time and photo editing software… I guess all of those things still exist, but I can also now tap my Sony camera with my iPhone…
